AN ADVENTURE EXPERIENCED BY FEW
Get more than a taste of what cowboys and cowgirls actually do for a living at the stunning Music Meadows Ranch. You can be one of the few “guest ranch hands” to actively participate in an authentic Colorado Ranching experience. Nestled at the base of the majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the Wet Mountain Valley of south-central Colorado, the ranch sits at an elevation of 9,000 feet.
THE REAL DEAL
This is no ordinary trail ride. You will be riding on a well-trained and conditioned Quarter Horse, working on a 4,000 acre family owned and operated cattle ranch. The day is full of necessary chores caring for roughly 800 head of yearlings that arrive the first of May and are loaded out the third week of September. Your job will be to get a good count on the herd, identify healthy cattle, sort out the cattle that need doctoring, move cattle to fresh pasture, or you might have to cut out a stray. The scenery is amazing, the wildlife spectacular and the memories . . . well, they are the kind of stories you’ll be telling for the rest of your life.
A LEARNING ADVENTURE
There’s only one way to learn how to handle cattle, a good guide, an experienced horse and lots of cattle! Regardless of your experience, you will have a great coach that will teach you how to learn or improve your horsemanship.
PICNIC ALONG THE TRAIL
After a full morning in the saddle, hobble your horse and stretch your legs for a well-earned lunch in a quiet Aspen grove. Food never tasted so good sitting beside a crystal-clear mountain stream. But then we think . . . the setting might help.
WHAT'S COOKING?
A hearty ranch breakfast at dawn, a delicious dinner mid-day or a satisfying ranch supper in the evening may enhance your Range Ride experience. Whatever you choose, these hearty and savory meals shared among new or old friends and family will fortify your body. The day’s experiences will satisfy your soul. When you leave Music Meadows Ranch you will feel rejuvenated, full of incredible memories and you’ll probably find yourself starting to plan your next visit.
FUN RIDE
For the less adventurous, up in the years, or a little too young, we offer a “just for fun” ride through the meadows near the ranch house. About two hours of enjoyable and confidence building on horseback is exactly what some folks or kids need. If necessary and for safety reasons, the small kids may hold the reins while an adult controls the lead line to the horse. We will still be among the cattle, but just won’t have to move them!
ROUNDUP
The Three Day Roundup only happens once a year around the 20th of September. A selected party of four “guest hands” will help deliver the contracted cattle to the buyer at this time. This interesting operation involves moving the cattle in phases to the shipping pastures and gathering them into the corrals. The cattle are then weighed, brand inspected and loaded into the semi-trucks. This is the day we learn what our profits for the year really are. It is the culmination of the entire yearling cattle ranching process. For these three days you will be one of the hard working crew, so you will be fed as part of the deal.
